6 Hour Csound
This is a piece I made for Dr. Boulanger Csound class at Berklee. Like many of my colleagues, we were given the Csound catalog and 6 hours to make a tune. All the sounds we used in the piece had to be rendered by in Csound and we only had 6 hours to work on the project. I would like to thank all of you who contributed to the wonderful collection of instruments, inspiration and knowledge that is the Csound Catalog.
Enjoy my piece!
All the best,
Michael

Roel_1minute
This is a piece that I composed for Dr. Boulanger's Csound class in Berklee. Its a note-list composition. Its a variation of my original class project, perhaps simpler, but works better musically.

Mouse_On_Mars
This is my 6 Hour composition for Dr. Boulanger's Csound class in Berklee. I used my 6 hours in no specific order, but I divided them in approximately 2.5 hours looking for/sampling instruments, 3 hours sequencing and .5 hours mixing. Its a track inspired by Mouse on Mars,
Enjoy!

Deepening
I've been studying this past semester in Dr. Boulanger's Csound class at Berklee College of Music. One of Dr B's many challenges included writing a piece in only six hours, to be entirely made from sounds found in the Csound Instrument Catalogue. For my project entitled "Deepening," I used samples rendered from the Csound Catalogue, which I arranged and manipulated with effects processors in Ableton Live. I used the Simpler and Drum Rack unit to shape many of my instruments.

I've been a member of Dr. Boulanger's Csound class this semester, and I'm posting a few of my compositions for you to hear. I would really love to know what you think, so that I can improve my future work in Csound which I hope to continue far beyond this class.
This is my one minute note list composition, and it is intended to be a soundscape inspired by a cave. It was written very early on in my exposure to Csound.
Thank you for time in listening, and also for answering my questions on the mailing list.

This is an example of where I used Csound in a project I was working on already (Logic Pro). It was a project I began a while ago and then abandoned, in which I was taking location-recorded sounds, some of which were my own and some of which were royalty free samples and building a piece from there.

This is my 6 hour challenge submission. We were allowed 6 hours in which to design or modify instruments in Csound and then use them to compose a piece of music in any sequencer of our choice, using samplers and anything else we so chose.

Alex Gear 1 minute composition
Alex Gear 1 minute composition
This was my first attempt at a composition in Csound using the note-list for Dr. B's Csound class. The piece was inspired by Arvo Part's "Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten"--a cannon by augmentation using a single mode. In Cantus a desending Aeolian scale is repeatedly played against which the same scale is played at increasing rhythmic beat divisions. Evaporation uses ascending triadic structures from the lydian mode played at rhythmic subdivisions related to each other via prime numbers.

Alex Gear 6 hour challenge "Stop Light"
Alex Gear 6 hour challenge "Stop Light"
This is my entry into the six hour challenge for Dr. B's Csound class. The instruments were designed in Ableton Live, mostly using the "Simpler" instrument using only rendered audio from Csound Catalog 2.5 synthesizers. Ableton Live was rewired into Pro Tools to record lines, loops and rhythms and then edited, arranged and mixed in Pro Tools.
The list of catalog files used is as follows:
bd14_01Varga Catalog
03_01_1Gather Amsterdam Catalog
wts7Comanjuncosas Collection
035PluckBassVaro_PinkstonDX Collection
analog3Comanjuncosas Collection
bell1Risset Catalog

One Minute Composition: Seiya Matsumiya
One Minute Composition: Seiya Matsumiya
This piece was written for the One-Minute Note-List Composition project for Dr. Richard Boulanger's Csound class at Berklee College of Music. There is a heavy use of randomizing opcodes, and automated filters and envelopes.
It has been a couple months since the composition, and for some reason there are clicks and pops when rendering the csd file that were not there before. Also, I accidentally switched the values for kr and ksmps, and the composition does not render properly when the values are correct (kr = 4410, ksmps = 10)

Terminus: CSound Catalog 6hr Challenge
Terminus: CSound Catalog 6hr Challenge
This piece was written entirely with samples of instruments from the CSound catalog. The rendered samples were sequenced in Logic Pro with some digital processing using Logic's functions and plugins, Kontakt, and Battery by Native Instruments.
The gathering of samples, composition, and mixing were done in 6 hours.

Pipyfm
Pipyfm is a Fractal Xentonal FM song (it's THE hot microgenre) using the CM ratio of 1 to pi. The scale is a 17 note per octave scale created using the dissonance curve for the FM spectrum.
It uses only Modist (a simple ModFM synth), Freeverbw (a freeverb-based reverb), and the Channel Strip V1.0 equalizer.

One-Minute Note List Composition by Jeremy Wolf
One-Minute Note List Composition by Jeremy Wolf
This is a simple short piece called "Falling Through Time" I did early on in Dr. Boulanger's CSound class. I made use of the foscil opcode and experimented with modulation using linen and expseg. I also used the vibes, crunch, and butlp opcodes. I also added global reverb and delay.

Six-Hour Catalog Challenge: Jeremy Wolf
Six-Hour Catalog Challenge: Jeremy Wolf
This is my submission to Dr. B's Six Hour CSound Challenge, titled "Just Us". I sampled sounds from the CSound Catalog, including those by Mikelson, Vargas, Smaragdis, and Comanjuncosas. Making a cameo is one of Comanjuncosas' 303 emulators, and some slices of one of Smaragdis' pieces I used Instances of Kontakt in Logic 8 to sequence the piece. I won Dr. B's stash of tea.

6 Hour Csound: CCircles
Hey all:
This is my 6 hour Csound catalog competition project for Dr. B's Csound class. I used instruments from the Cook, Lyon, and Mikelson collections. I altered some of the score files to get what I wanted, then rendered the files. I sampled them using both Battery and Kontakt in Logic... I sprinkled in some love and a cheesy modulation and this is what came out.
Love,
Rose Seyfried

1 Minute Note-list: Nam Tok
Hi:
This is my one minute note-list composition for Dr. B's Csound class. Nam Tok means "waterfall" in Thai. I worked with a sample of my voice, as well as the fof opcode, trying to recreate a human-sounding drone in the background.

Burial: My One Minute Note-List Composition
Burial: My One Minute Note-List Composition
Hello all,
I'm in Dr. Boulanger's Csound class at Berklee. We're at the end of the semester and all I can say is the Csound universe is large!
This was my first composition using Csound. I call it burial as it reminds me of Jeff Buckley's "Lover, You Should've Come Over". We were asked to create a one minute composition using a note-list instrument. I've attached both the final audio in MP3 format as well as the CSD used to produce the audio. I hope you enjoy them.
Best,
Andrew Kim

Impulse: My Six Hour Csound Catalog Project
Impulse: My Six Hour Csound Catalog Project
Hello again,
The attached audio is the result of my Six Hour Csound Catalog project. We were tasked to produce a piece using only renderings of instruments found in the Csound Catalog. I used instruments created by Josep M. Comajuncosas, Hans Mikelson, and John-Phillip Gather. All instruments were rendered in QuteCsound, normalized and tapered with Peak Pro 6, made into sample-instruments using Native Instruments' Battery and Kontakt, and finally sequenced and processed using Logic Studio 8.
The piece is called Impulse. I hope you enjoy it.
Best,
Andrew Kim
